SeapiX aboard Gerda Marie

At the start of 2020, the new Gerda Marie crew and Stein Magnar Melingen were ready for a new year, newly christened boat, and new quotas. On board was SeapiX, an exciting sonar from French iXblue (now Exail).

Due to the corona situation, there was limited opportunity for physical training, but with the help of available support technology, external assistance via TeamViewer was still possible.

The experience was promising and one could soon see the advantages of SeapiX. One could see the purity of fish in different species, both with blue whiting, sand eel, and North Sea herring. They experienced a clear image of blue whiting down to 600m.

"Yes, now I'm starting to see that this could be a fantastic instrument in fishing contexts," says Stein Magnar Melingen.
